An Insult to Islam?

From Fox News:

"Rejecting Islam is insulting God. We will not allow God to be humiliated. This man must die," said cleric Abdul Raoulf, who is considered a moderate and was jailed three times for opposing the Taliban before the hardline regime was ousted in 2001.

Is conversion from Islam to Christianity an "insult to Islam" as Afghan clerics argue?

I say yes.

Any time you convert from one religion to another, you make the claim that your former religion is not true. Some of us call this a public "confession". Just as it would be insulting to God if a Christian falls from the faith, so it is insulting to Islam (and to the false god Allah) when someone leaves Islam behind.

Now, that doesn't mean we kill someone who insults our God or faith.

I had a discussion with a pastor last night who is a missionary. He has teenagers in the foreign community who wish to be baptized but fear being kicked out of their Buddhist family.

He wanted to know if they should still be able to receive the sacrament if they desire to be baptized but "cannot" because of economic and family reasons.

I of course wonder how this is any different than a Jew or the church under Nero. Baptism is renouncing the former faith. The Buddhist parents know this.

He is worried about offending the Buddhist community and thus endagering his work there. Sorry, but I think tis bound to happen.

Baptism is public confession and will result in suffering. Be thankful we have Christ.
