Random Thoughts

A few items of note, questions to ponder, fun-facts-to-know-and-tell.

1) I mentioned to someone today that, "All pastors should blog." We agreed that it does seem an ideal medium for pastors to disseminate ideas, talk theology, share sermons, etc... More and more as the net "catches on", with the younger generations, and as technology becomes more a part of our lives, I can only see this expanding.

2) I am playing "Test War" tonight.... well... my confirmation class is. They will quiz each other with test questions from the last 2 units. Kind of an overall review. More fun than they can stand, I am sure.

3) My Israel trip for 2007 is in the early planning stages. Looking forward to visiting the Holy Land, and hoping Iran doesn't cause too much trouble for us....

  1. 1.Question? Do Pastors that blog , post messages that are of interest to the younger generation ?

    2. Of course I'm not a Pastor, but for the past three years I've been out here in cyberspace listening to a few Lutheran Pastors like yourself, I appreciate your volunteer services but I'm an old lady ( 55 ), Do you have young people from your church that visit your blog here ? I's been my experiance that teens come to chat groups looking for a " Pen Pal " their own age , they come and go real quickly.
    3. So glad to here your going on a vacation. I've often wondered why more Lutheran's seem to travel to Luther Land instead of the Holy Land when given the choice.

  2. I like to think I'm young (26, decide for yourself) and I visit this and many other pastors' blogs, though I am not one myself. I find that our pastors are, on the whole, well-trained and insightful (and sometimes incite-ful) men who often lack an appropriate venue for these types of dialogs in their parish settings. Often, the discussions here are about the very questions I have, and tax the mind of even the greatest theologian -- these subjects may not be appropriate for print media or other typical publications aimed at youth. So much of what is aimed at "young people" (again, a subjective term) gets shallow and introspective very quickly. As someone who deals with young Christians (I teach Jr. High Sunday School), I find that young people are much more aware of their world amd more curious than we often think. They ask hard questions! The pastors' blogs that I have read often answer these difficult questions with orthodoxy and love.

  3. I don't know about the "youth" (High School age, and such) being big into this sort of thing, but I certainly notice a 20-30 something demographic. It would be interesting to see the average age of a blog visitor.

  4. According to an article I just read, most of the folks who are online these days are between the age of 35 and 42 years old. I agree with you, I can only see this expanding to all ages cradle to grave. I wonder if my Pastor here at St. John's in Topeka would ever would except your invitation to start a blog ?
